About Us

Experience
Sorcha O’Brien, founder & CEO of Greener Horizons, has worked in the environmental sector for over 15 years in a variety of roles from NGO/social enterprises to the public sector. In her role as Environmental Awareness Officer (EAO) for South Dublin County Council (SDCC) she managed national, regional, and local environmental awareness/education campaigns and projects, the vast majority of which addressed reuse and repair.
For example, as part of the Local Authority Prevention Network, she worked with Monaghan County Council, the EPA and the National waste prevention programme to pilot and launch the repairmystuff.ie project. This pilot project looked to move repair directories from a localised County level hard copy format, to a national online platform which resulted in the www.repairmystuff.ie website.
Sorcha’s remit as EAO in SDCC revolved heavily around waste prevention, which included the development and implementation of numerous reuse and repair campaigns e.g. National Reuse Month and EcoWeek (a week-long environmental festival), which looked to engage stakeholders in positive environmental actions such as re-use and repair.
Voluntary Boards
Sorcha has served on a number of environmental social enterprises and project boards:
Whilst serving on these boards in a voluntary capacity Sorcha helped to direct, and steer the organisations to establish and/or expand their networks whilst creating sustainable business models.
